We hope you’ll mark your calendars for the seventh annual Jewels and Jeans Barn Dance that will be on Oct. 15. The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and the doors open at 6:30 p.m.

This annual fundraiser is put on by the Pagosa Springs Rotary Club and supports a variety of its different community programs. To mention just a few, Rotarians provide dictionaries to third-grade students, backpacks for youth who need weekend snacks/meals, scholarships to high school seniors, teacher mini grants and more.

This year, come and enjoy the music from Tim Sullivan and Band, who will be playing tunes so you can dance the night away. He’s sure to keep your toes tapping and skirts swinging for these community causes.

Inside, in addition to the music, there will also be a cash bar and a silent auction. We won’t ruin the surprise of what will be in the silent auction, but you’ll want to see some of the things you can win.

Outside, there will be two different food vendors to purchase food and help your belly from being the one making the music. We’ll leave that to Sullivan inside.

On the half hour, there will be free horse-drawn rides. Folks will want to sign up for slot times when they come in, as we’re sure these rides will be a big hit.

How can you get tickets, you ask? That’s easy. Pick them up at The Choke Cherry Tree or from any of your local friendly Rotarians. They are $20 in advance. If you don’t get them before the event, you can get them at the door, and they’ll be $25 each.

It’s time to pull out your nicest cowboy and cowgirl duds and mosey on over to the Archuleta County Extension office in just a few weeks for this event. Git along, little doggies.

If you’re interested in learning more about Rotary, we hope you’ll ask one of us Rotarians either beforehand or at the event. We’d love to have more members help us serve the goal of “Service Above Self.”
