Patricia “Patty” Tharp, of Farmington, N.M., will be presenting the program for the Archuleta County Genealogical Society on Saturday, Aug. 13. Her topic will be the “Lost Communities of Navajo Dam.”

Tharp has written two books on this subject. Volume one focuses on Los Martinez, and volume two is about Los Pinos, Rosa and Los Arboles. The books also provide an introduction on the settlement of these areas beginning in the 1870s.

In preparation for writing these two booklets for the San Juan County New Mexico Historical Society, Tharp interviewed many “old-timers” who provided a wealth of information. But most rewarding was their sharing their own stories and rare photographs.

Tharp grew up in Farmington and with her husband, Don, and their family, resided in Saudi Arabia for 30 years. She returned to Farmington in 2014 and is the past president of the San Juan County Historical Society. A keen historian, Tharp has also been an avid genealogist since 1969.

The Archuleta County Genealogical Society meets at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street beginning at 10 a.m. A short business meeting will follow the presentation.

All visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend.
