Dr. Rebecca Chavez, MD, graduated on June 30 from the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at Westchester Medical Center, a 920-bed quaternary care and academic hospital affiliated with New York Medical College School of Medicine.
She is the daughter of Alice Chavez, of Pagosa Springs, and Louis Chavez, now deceased.
She is a trauma surgeon and critical care medicine specialist. She will begin in September 2022 as attending surgeon and surgical critical care at Penn Highlands in Dubois, Pa.
Chavez is a graduate of the University of New Mexico with degrees in biochemistry and political science, and completed her general surgery residency at Grady Hospital affiliated with Morehouse School of Medicine.
She hopes to return to the southwest in the future.
