Karen K. Long-Hatfield, 71, passed away unexpectedly on May 24 from a short illness. Karen beat cancer three separate times. She was a warrior, fighter and true inspiration to all of us with her grace, bravery and perseverance.

Karen is survived by her husband of 32 years, George Hatfield; her children, Amber Brandimarte (Gerard), Shaun Long and Nathan Hatfield (Sioux); her grandson, Wylder Long; and sister, Cindy Staggs. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charlene and Loyd DeuPree.

Karen was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother (aka JaJa), sister, confidant and friend. She will be remembered for her big heart and ability to advocate for those who didn’t have a voice. In her 29-year career as a victim advocate in Arapahoe County and Pagosa Springs (Rise Above Violence), she helped countless people get their voices and power back.

Karen enjoyed laughing, quilting, reading, swimming, dancing, cooking and gardening. She loved all animals. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
