The Sarah Platt Decker Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently presented first-grade classes in local elementary schools with patriotic packets containing information about the flag of the United States. Each packet held 10 pages of patriotic worksheets, coloring pages, a small American flag and a bookmark about the Pledge of Allegiance.

Nearly 450 packets were distributed to schools in Pagosa Springs, Bayfield, Ignacio and Durango.

Sharing information about our national flag’s history, use and care is one of the missions of the Sarah Platt Decker Chapter of the NSDAR, and the education of our young people is paramount. With the upcoming celebrations of National Flag Day on June 14 and the celebration of our independence on July 4, the group strives to instill the spirit of patriotism.

The Sarah Platt Decker Chapter of the NSDAR is a nonpolitical service organization meeting August through May alternating between Durango and Pagosa Springs. Membership is open to all women over the age of 18 who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
