Traffic backs up as Pagosa Springs Police Department personnel respond to a three-vehicle accident on Put Hill the afternoon of March 3. According to Police Chief William Rockensock, the green Subaru (left) slowed and stopped behind a vehicle making a left-hand turn onto 14th Street and was hit by a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Austin May, who was reportedly distracted. The collision pushed the Subaru forward into the inside westbound lane, where it was struck head on by a westbound box truck, which spun the Subaru back into the eastbound lane facing the following direction. The box truck ended up in the ditch on the north shoulder of the highway. May was citied for following too closely and careless driving causing bodily injury. A juvenile female in May’s vehicle was injured. No other injuries were reported.
