As an ongoing effort, Healthy Archuleta continues to look for strategies to deepen our engagement into the community in Archuleta County.

A strategy that we have had in place includes providing the ability for the content of Healthy Archuleta Web pages to be translated into Spanish. On the bottom of each Web page of the foodcoalition4archuleta.org website there is an option to select English or Spanish for the written content of the Web page. Spanish-speaking community members are invited to peruse the website and access information regarding the programs and services offered by Healthy Archuleta.

A big effort of the organization currently includes conducting a nutrition security and health equity assessment for the county that honors the diversity of the community. Outreach and engagement of community members whose primary language is Spanish is essential to understanding the full scope of the health issues and opportunities in Archuleta, and this approach is intended to help address language barriers that may prevent participation.

The organization aims to go above and beyond just simply addressing barriers to participation by empowering all residents, including Spanish-speaking community members, to have their voices heard and to step into leadership opportunities that address nutrition security and health equity in Archuleta County neighborhoods. To support that aim, Healthy Archuleta continues to invite Spanish-speaking community members to engage with the work of the coalition through the language of their heart and to support the learning that promotes equity, diversity and inclusion.
