Rosalie Mae Boughan

Rosalie Mae Boughan passed away peacefully on Jan. 14 at home. Mae, as she was known to most people, was born July 26, 1934, in Hesperus, Colo., to William Albert and Maria Angelina Conner. She was the oldest of 10 children.

Mae married Raymond Boughan in Aztec, N.M., on Feb. 7, 1952. Ray preceded her in death on April 12, 2021. They had literally known each other her whole life, having grown up in the same area.

Mae sold Avon for many years and was quite proud to have been selected as a President’s Club member for outstanding sales for over 50 years. Many local families purchased their bath and body and cosmetic products from Mae in the days before we had many stores in Pagosa Springs. Mae and Ray both enjoyed riding horseback and worked hard to raise their family. Mae worked as a mail carrier from the Pagosa Springs post office to Arboles via Pagosa Junction in a two-wheel drive car. After a couple of years, she was able to purchase a four-wheel drive that she used on this route for a few more years. She owned The Feed Store, a gift and T-shirt shop in Pagosa Springs, for a number of years before selling it and semi-retiring.

Mae is survived by her children, Donna Boughan, Janet and David Hartman, and Rhonda and Donnie McClure. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sara Laney, Sandra McKibben, Randy Proctor and Tyler Smith, as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Blanche Valencia, Mary Louise (Buddy) Gray, Patti (Bill) Willis and her brother, Don (Karma) Conner. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, one son who died at birth and sisters Mercedes McReynolds, Alberta Smith; brothers George Conner, Bob Conner, Lyle Conner; as well as brothers-in-law Fred Valencia and Denver Smith.

Services will be held at a later date.
