Mary F. Forest passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, in Pagosa Springs. She lived to an amazing age of 101 years old.

Mary was born in Scotland Oct. 31, 1920, to parents James and Catherine Barr. The family immigrated to the U.S. in 1923 and moved to Missouri. She had four siblings: James, Tate, Josephine and Patrick. She was married to Lee Forest on Aug. 3, 1940. They had two daughters, Mary Lee and Jamie Forest. Mary, Lee and their young family moved from Missouri in 1952 to California for many years until 2018, when she moved to Colorado to be closer to her daughter and her husband, Jamie and Gary.

Mary enjoyed swimming, walking and hiking, and she never stopped learning and enriching her life. She was trying to learn piano, studied braille and attempted to learn different languages as well as learning to square dance. In her honor, the family wants to impart these words: “Celebrate life not death.”

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lee Walters and Jamie Draper; six grandchildren: Gabriel, Chelsea, Skydrea, Mark, Laurie and Jennifer; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Graveside services are planned for Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m., at Hill Top Cemetery in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
