Pagosa Fire Protection District (PFPD) personnel responded to a garage fire on Jan. 12, with the cause of the fire under investigation.

According to a PFPD press release, the report of a garage fire on Fisher Court came in at approximately 12:26 p.m. on Jan. 12 via the 911 system managed by the Archuleta County Combined Dispatch Center.

“Upon arrival, the first arriving units completed a scene size up noting a fully involved attached garage,” the press release reads. “A second alarm was activated. The first due engine initiated a transitional fire attack applying water from the exterior and quickly moving to the interior of the structure to extinguish.”

The press release notes the garage was “heavily damaged,” but vintage musical equipment was salvaged from the upstairs studio.

The release also explains the residence was occupied at the time of the fire, with both residents self-evacuating prior to fire apparatus arrival.

“One resident was treated for minor burns and released on scene,” it notes.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The PFPD responded with two engines, one rescue truck, two chief vehicles, one fire marshal vehicle, two support vehicles, 11 paid staff members and six volunteers, according to the press release. One Pagosa Springs Medical Center ambulance staged on scene to provide medical care if necessary. Mutual aid response from Upper Pine Fire and Rescue was requested and then stood down once the fire was controlled.

The PFPD was on scene for approximately four hours, the release notes.
