Long-time resident Herman Silva, 80, died Dec. 30, 2021, at his Casa De Los Arcos residence after being ill for several months.

He is survived by his sister, Reyne O’Neal (Shag), Lola Dolores Martinez, Lily Velarde (Stan), Inez Silva and Kim Silva (Adan). He also had several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Fabian Silva and Irene Silva; brothers Paul Silva and Amadeo Silva; sister Susan Garcia (Chris); niece Janice Campuzano O’Neal; Sharol Vasquez; and great-niece Danielle Nicole Jack.

Herman was born in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and was the oldest of nine children. He went to school in Ridgway, Colo., though the family moved for a time to Pagosa Junction, Colo., and back to Pagosa Springs, where Herman then worked at the San Juan Saw Mill until it closed down. He did other odd jobs like fencing, ranch work, logging in the mountains, and later worked at the local restaurants such as the Elk Horn Cafe and Riverside Restaurant. In his spare time, Herman enjoyed reading, fishing, taking walks through town, and was his active self all the time he was unwell. Even during difficult situations, he always kept his witty sense of humor. Herman will be greatly missed.

Rosary and Mass services will be held at a later date.
