October is the fourth birthday of the Food System/Food Equity Coalition in Archuleta County and we are looking to celebrate with everyone over a community meal and birthday cake. We are eager to join together in a socially distanced outside gathering in mid-October to share about the work of the Food Coalition, fundraise, honor our hardworking volunteers, and celebrate with some great local food and birthday cake.

September’s theme is “Growing the Growers” and will include discussions on how we can grow our local food capacity in Archuleta County. Another opportunity to participate in the work of the Food Coalition is by joining us at our upcoming two seasonal food demonstrations in partnership with the Archuleta Food Pantry Network scheduled for September.
The Amazing Grace food pantry will host the first demo on Sept. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The St. Patrick’s food pantry will host on Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Demos involve a garden-to-table talk, nutrition tips, cooking skills and a tasting session. Featured recipes highlight the rich heritage of Archuleta County. Participants who register take home garden-fresh produce and pantry staples to recreate the dish at home.
The Food Coalition continues to receive food donations from the community in support of nutrition security for Archuleta County. If you have extra produce in your garden that you would like to donate, please contact the Food Coalition to coordinate drop-off of your food items.
