Special to The PREVIEW

This year marks the 51st year since the first Earth Day was held in 1970. Locals have joined to honor and celebrate in various ways over the years, beginning in 2009. We invite the community to join us this month, joining the highway crews, by picking up 10 pieces of trash a day and properly disposing of it. We will officially honor this day on April 24 with a community event, so mark your calendar and stay tuned for more information to come.

As we prepare to commemorate this day, the organizers want to recognize the many groups and organizations that contribute to the beautification of our area through programs like the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway and Archuleta County’s Adopt-a-Road.

Many entities have donated many volunteer hours and energy to pick up trash along portions of highway in Archuleta County and the surrounding area. We offer a heartfelt thank you to all those who have contributed throughout the years.

The Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association also has an adopt-a-road program. We honor all of you for helping in this simple but impactful way to keep Pagosa Springs litter free.
