On March 1, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) released a statement confirming the identity of remains found along Wolf Creek Pass.

The remains have been identified as 49-year-old Marlena Rena Mizell.

The Mineral County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy confirming Mizell’s identity.

Mizell was first reported missing by the South Fork Police Department on Jan. 2.

According to the CBI press release, “the preliminary findings show Mizell died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries” and that “Toxicology results are pending.”

The CBI press release also states, “Investigators do not believe foul play was involved.”

According to a previous press release from CBI on Feb. 23, search and rescue crews from Archuleta County and Mineral County, along with the Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation and the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office located the remains approximately 150 feet away from the victim’s car.

That same press release states that the victim’s vehicle was located “hundreds of feet from the roadway on Wolf Creek Pass.”
