Joan Loffland Russey, 83, passed away on Feb. 22. Born in Fort Worth to the late John and Frances Loffland, Joan was the eldest of four children. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1956 and the University of Texas at Austin in 1960.

For the past 22 years, Joan was married to the love of her life, Charles Bennett “Pete” Russey. Childhood and lifelong friends, Joan and Pete were reunited in the late 1990s and married in 2000. They made Fort Worth their primary residence and enjoyed spending time at their home in Pagosa Springs, Colo.

Athletic and competitive, Joan was an avid snow skier and skilled tennis player, and she loved board games, excelling at bridge and Mahjong. She was actively engaged in the Fort Worth and Austin communities. Dear to her heart were the Fort Worth Lecture Foundation, the Junior League of Austin and her sorority, Pi Beta Phi.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Loffland, and her brother, John Denton Loffland. She is survived by husband Charles Bennett “Pete” Russey, sister Nancy Loffland Brackett and brother Gary S. Loffland, all of Fort Worth, and daughter Leslie Holleman, of Brownwood, along with a multitude of dear friends across the country. The family will hold a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.
