Richard Allan ‘Rick’ Shahan

271

Richard Allan “Rick” Shahan departed this life Wednesday, July 15, mainly, we suspect, to spare himself the agony of watching another losing season of his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Rick grew up in Colorado and attended Pagosa Springs High School where his classmates dubbed him the honor of “The Pirate” his senior year. He relocated to Oklahoma where he received his BA in finance from East Central University in Ada., Oklahoma. He went on to enjoy a long career with State Farm Insurance as an estimator, claim representative and team manager.

Rick loved fly fishing in Alaska, The Eagles, Tombstone (I’ll be your huckleberry) and his 2002 Ford F250 pickup truck. He absolutely hated cell phones and texting. He proudly boasted he had no working knowledge of TicToc, SnapChat, Twitter or Instagram, but dabbled with FaceBook from time to time. Whatever he lacked technologically, he compensated with an over abundance of charm, charisma and generosity.

Rick took fashion advice from no one. His trademark ensemble was the latest couture plain white T-shirt from the fashion house Fruit of The Loom, under a plain white button down polo, khaki slacks (or shorts) and fishing sandals.

Rick is survived by his favorite son, Ryan Shahan, Plano, Texas; his former spouse, Teresina Shahan, Plano, Texas; parents Joe and Aggie Shahan, Bartlesville, Okla.; sister Kathy (Scott) Roby, Oklahoma City, Okla.; brother Jody (Dawn), Bartlesville, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rick was the life of the party; we miss him already.

A memorial service will be held at a later date once the COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed.
