Special to The PREVIEW

Thursday, Dec. 5, the Pagosa Springs Girls Choir (PSGC) will present its annual holiday concert, “Christmas at the Movies,” at the Community United Methodist Church.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Local musician Beth Filliowich will be on hand to serenade the audience with holiday favorites, putting all in a festive spirit of the season. Also on hand will be PSGC vocal coaches Darcy DeGuise and Jeanette Hill. The PSGC is always thrilled to have them on their concert.

PGSC concert admission is always free, but donations are gratefully accepted. All proceeds will go toward operating expenses and the educational trip in the summer of 2020.

“Last year’s trip was local, taking advantage of arts and culture in and around Pagosa Springs. The summer of 2020 will take the PSGC to Las Vegas, Nev. Opportunities for the girls at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas have been made available through Isabelle Emerson, professor emeritus of the university,” said Linda Parker, director. “We are excited to offer the girls these unique experiences to expand their knowledge and by studying with university teachers.”

The girls will also attend a performance of Cirque de Soleil while in Las Vegas. Not missing any chance at seeing something extraordinary, the trip has been mapped out to include a brief visit to the Grand Canyon on the way to Las Vegas and another stop in Zion National Park on the way home.

“I have seen our girls grow so much through our summer travel. Many have little or no opportunity to see and hear the many artistic and cultural events that are scheduled on our trips,” Parker said. “They are always so well behaved and they represent Pagosa Springs in a stellar way. It is a joy for me to travel with them.”

Concert goers can also do a little shopping at the concert as Rocky Mountain Chocolate bars will be available for purchase. They make great gifts and stocking stuffers; they can be frozen and also used in cooking, so you’ll want to stock up.

We hope that the Pagosa community will make this concert a “must see” on their holiday calendar this year and support these young musicians. Please come and experience how very special Christmas can be.
