2019/05/obit-Pilar-martinez--213x300.jpgPilar Maria Martinez, age 88, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Four Corners nursing home on Sunday, May 19. She was born on May 8, 1931, in Monero, N.M.,to Margarita Adelia and Juan Teodoro Rivera. The family relocated to Rosa, N.M., in 1941; they later moved to Pagosa Springs, Colo., where she met Fred Joe Martinez. Pilar and Fred married on Oct. 21, 1961, in Allison, Colo. Together they raised four children: Anthony Rivera (Dixie), Phillip Martinez (Heidi), Pricilla Martinez and Ricky Martinez.

Pilar leaves behind her four children as well as nine grandchildren: Laura, Audrey, Nacole, Fred, Jennifer, Joni, Amy, Valerie and Tony; as well as 16 great-grandchildren: Yareli, Daleysa, Elias, Izabella, Treanna, Leo, Ty, James, Alixandra, Kaleb, Trevor, Keira, Avery, Casey, Dylan and Bianca; and one great-great-grandchild, Analayah. She also leaves behind her sisters: Dolores Gurule, Fabiola Rivas, Jeannie Baldwin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends; and a special thank you to her sister-in-law, Dora Rivera, of Durango, and family, who visited Pilar every day during her stay at Four Corners.

Pilar’s days were spent crocheting, making tortillas, being a handy-woman fixing anything that broke, ranching, and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pilar is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, her brothers, Ike, Raymond and Ted Rivera, and her sister Sandra Rivera.
