2019/05/obit-kathy-carter-267x300.jpgFamily and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Downs Funeral Home to celebrate the life of Kathy Carter-Maestas, who gained her wings on Sunday, April 21, after a brave year-long battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She was 63 years old. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home.

Kathy was born and raised in Marshall, Texas. She also resided in Jefferson, Texas; Pagosa Springs, Colo.; Hallsville, Texas; and Phoenix, Ariz.

Kathy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went.

She is the loving and devoted mother of daughter Tina Hamblin and her husband, Brandon, of Phoenix, Ariz; sons Jason Mills and his wife, Valerie Lucas, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and William Clark and his wife, Michelle, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.

Kathy was an adored Nana to Damion and Cordale Hamblin, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Denton, Dallas, Katelynn, Jase and Dalton Mills, of Pagosa Springs; and Paizley Clark, of Pagosa Springs.

Kathy is lovingly survived by sisters Linda Lessetter, of Marshall, Texas; Carol Pearson and husband Rickey, of Marshall, Texas; Janet Rhoads and husband Robert, of Midland, Texas; and brothers Allen Carter and wife Denise, of Chapel Hill, Texas; and Randall Carter and wife Janice, of Marshall, Texas; many nieces, nephews and great friends.

Kathy was welcomed home by grandson Brayden Mills and parents Morris and Fannie Mae Carter who preceded her in death.
