School board accepting letters of interest for vacant seat

With the resignation of Jason Peterson from the Archuleta School District (ASD) Board of Education (BOE) recently, the board is now looking to fill a director vacancy.

Peterson formally resigned at the BOE meeting on Nov. 13, citing that he had recently moved out of his district, which forced him to resign from the board.

For those who are interested in the vacant seat, they must live within the boundaries of District 2.

Candidates can do one of two things to find out which district they reside in: they can go to www.mypagosaschools.com and look under the “School Board” tab to access the legal descriptions of director districts, or they can contact the county clerk’s office.

Those who have been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child are ineligible to run for a school director vacancy.

Interested candidates in the vacant board seat need to submit a letter of interest by 3 p.m. on Dec. 21 to the District Office at 309 Lewis St.

Letters of interest may also be sent in an email to rbennett@pagosa.k12.co.us or by mail to Executive Assistant Robyn Bennett at P.O. Box 1498, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.

Letters of interest must address the following questions:

• Why do you want to be on the board?

• Do you plan on running for the position once your term expires in November of 2019?

• What is your philosophy of education as it relates to serving on the board?

The BOE plans on conducting interviews of potential candidates at 5 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2019.
