Special to The PREVIEW

The Christmas season is in full swing in Pagosa Springs, but it wouldn’t be complete without the Pagosa Springs Choral Society’s annual Christmas concerts.

The free-to-the-public concerts will be performed in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, with a final concert on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The annual concerts are a highlight of the Christmas season in our community and are a mix of both sacred and seasonal selections. The choir will present such selections as “Come, Messiah King,” “His Light in Us,” and the theme selection for the concert “It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas.” Additionally, a select group of jazz singers will present “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and “The Christmas Song.”

Dan Burch, Pagosa Springs High School music director, will direct the choir and Venita Burch will provide the piano accompaniment. A portion of the concert will be sung “in the round” with the choir surrounding the audience for the a cappella selections of the program. George Frideric Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from “The Messiah” will provide the final selection for the evening.

There is no charge for the concerts, but a free-will offering will be received to support music scholarships for students at Pagosa Springs High School. Everyone is welcome.
