Peter was a loving brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, primo, supportive family man and, most importantly, father! His roots run deep through Pagosa Springs and Pagosa Junction.

The beginning of his life started in his early 20s when he was blessed with his beautiful baby girl, Shana. His legacy then continued with his first born son, Max, and second daughter, Mariah. A family held together by his unconditional loyalty and love. Peter, well known as “Felix,” with a joyous smile, was a warm spirit and proud father who was blessed with a mother’s nurturing touch. He began his work career as a worker, in what once was Pagosa’s Lumber mill, but soon became the recognizable face of Circle Supers/City Market, where he worked as the longtime meat manager. The strangers who crossed his path were never strangers for long. Felix had a personality that brought many into his “Aye, bud” circle. Some who will forever be his “brother from another mother” in this life until the next. He lived his life with the freeness of a child, but the heart of a survivor, threaded together with strength and pride.

He is survived by his daughter, Shana Stewart (Tracy); son Max Vasquez; daughter Mariah Vasquez; sister Angie Villarreal; nieces Joann Pacheco (Ray), Cathy Villarreal (who were very much like daughters), and April Justice Rita; grandsons Bryan Schoonover and Remington Vasquez; great-grandchildren Willa and Stanly Schoonover; and nephews Mike Vasquez, Jeremiah Villarreal and Brandon Pacheco. There are numerous more relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emilia and Juan Vasquez, and his brothers and sisters.

Arrangements are as follows: rosary 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11; funeral 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, both at John Paul II Church.
