Special to The PREVIEW

We are all ecstatic to announce that after years of struggling, fighting and waiting, our Madeline Lucero-Ames has finally been put on a lung transplant list and is second in line.

She is eagerly awaiting a phone call letting her know that they found a match, at which time she will be placed on a helicopter and airlifted to Denver where the surgery will take place. This phone call can come today, tomorrow, next week or in six months.

The surgery is extremely high-risk and the recovery will be lengthy. She will be required to stay in Denver for at least four months during her recovery and rehabilitation.

We are asking for donations to help with expenses that will be incurred during this process. We have set up a GoFundMe account and a bank account at the Bank of the San Juans labeled “lung transplant.”

We are also having a bake sale on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 8 a.m. at Walmart. We ask for both donations of baked goods and for purchase of baked goods to help Madeline.

We understand that money is tight for some, if not most, so any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. If everyone who reads this donates even $5 or $10, it could add up to thousands of dollars quickly.

Please, if you hare unable to donate financially, we ask wholeheartedly for your prayers, before, during and after this life-saving surgery.

Thank you and God bless.
