Bobra is survived by her husband, lifelong companion and best friend, Walt; by son Tom and his wife, Paula, of Lubbock; son Chris and his wife, Kristi, of Houston; and sister Cindy Petre and her husband, Russ, of Sherman; along with three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Annie Mae Etter, and sister Ann Carol Younger.
Bobra was born in Dallas, Texas, on April 11, 1936. She was a child of the Depression but always possessed of the spirit of a better world. She pursued an acting career in New York at a young age and later was one of the early female pioneers in computer programming from the 1960s until her retirement. It was at Arlington State College (now UTA) where she met Walt, fell in love and started a family in Dallas. She and Walt loved the outdoors, sailing catamarans in regattas and for many years having Lake Lewisville as their backyard. It was after her boys started families of their own that Walt and Bobra built their own heaven on earth in Pagosa Springs, Colo. There was nothing better for Bobra than walking in the clean mountain air hand in hand with Walt, her singular kindred spirit.
She was a voracious reader, consuming sci-fi paperbacks by the gross. Bobra’s keen intellect bred lively discussion, good humor and, best of all, sage advice. Bobra was the one everyone else looked to when something needed to get done. She had an infectious laugh which clearly demonstrated her happiness and which made everybody else happy as well.
Bobra touched lives, and made them better off for the experience. That’s what family and friends will remember most.
A service celebrating Bobra’s life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Combest Family Funeral Homes Chapel, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas.
