Breakfast with Balloons will be one of the highlights of Pagosa Springs’ ColorFest weekend for the third year. Proceeds benefit the continuing operations of Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) park.

Saturday morning, Sept. 15, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., the GGP will welcome guests to a gourmet breakfast, live music in the amphitheater and the best seat in town to watch the dramatic mass ascension of hot air balloons. The chefs’ savory and sweet breakfast selection and GGP’s mimosas are not to be missed.

The GGP’s Community Garden Dome, Innovation Dome and sculpted Rotary Garden are constructed. Pagosa Springs’ Centennial Park is transformed. Feedback from locals and visitors is abundantly positive, but with the “wows” come questions. What’s this one for? What will happen in that one? When will they open?

The Community Garden Dome, south of the San Juan Riverwalk, will be operational first. The conventional soil beds are designed to maximize growing space, but also to be divided evenly among participating community groups. The GGP is seeking a coordinator to organize participants and develop agreements for cooperation in the shared Community Garden space. The initial coordinator(s) will be a volunteer, but GGP is actively pursuing funds to hire the GGP park’s first employee.

The Innovation Dome, a controlled environment greenhouse, will be operational in 2019. The soilless integrated system will grow fish protein as well as plants. Both new greenhouses will retain GGP’s educational mission: “Growing food and community with local energy.”

The Education Dome hosted over 300 children in the 2017-18 school year. Plans for another busy year of hands-on, standards-based activities are underway.

Visit the GGP online at http://www.pagosagreen.org. Ask for more information. Ask to volunteer. We’ll contact you. Join our email list so you’ll always know what’s going on in the GGP’s public park. Stroll down the Riverwalk and see the progress for yourself.
