Mack Prentiss Jones, age 89, of Purvis, Miss., who was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, with his wife, Marie, at his side. He was born Jan. 2, 1929, the youngest of eight children, to Lawrence and Lula Jones in Wayne County near Waynesboro, Miss.

Mack received an associate of arts degree from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Miss., and a bachelor of arts degree from Mississippi College at Clinton, Miss. His graduate degrees include a bachelor of divinity degree and a master’s of theology (with honors), both from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a minister on Aug. 29, 1950, by the Clara Baptist Church, Clara, Miss.

On June 15, 1952, Mack married Marie Martin, who was his cherished wife and partner in the ministry for 65 years.

He devoted his life to serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the ministry of winning souls to Christ.

In 1950, he began his ministry as pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Alabama. During his many years in the ministry, he served as the pastor of churches in Mississippi, Eugene and Klamath Falls, Ore., and Alabama.

In 1963, Mack and Marie were appointed to serve in the foreign mission field as missionaries by the Foreign Mission Board, SBC and served in South America and Mexico until they retired in 1994.

Pagosa Springs became their new home, where they continued to serve in the ministry until they returned to their home state of Mississippi in 2014, settling in Purvis, Miss.

Mack is survived by his wife, Marie, and many nieces and nephews who loved and respected him and will miss him dearly.

Mack is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lula Jones; brothers Pat Jones, Aubrey Jones, Albert Ray Jones and Melvin Jones; and sisters Almoa Jones, Elsie Beard and Lois Russell.
