She had three daughters of her own, as well as three stepdaughters and a stepson through her marriage to Jim. Her husband and middle daughter predeceased her in 2016. Her legacy also includes five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She may have been born and raised in Texas, but her heart was here in Colorado with her dear friends and neighbors. She lived and traveled throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East while married to her first husband, a career military man who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. A working professional in her own right, she also had a 40-year career with the Defense Department. Since retirement, she had been active in community activities — serving on the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Board; on the Archuleta County Republican Central Committee as secretary and vice chairman; and in the Archuleta County Republican Women’s Club as secretary and president. In 2018, she was elected as a delegate to represent Colorado at the National Republican Convention, which was held in St. Paul, Minn. She was affectionately known in Pagosa Springs circles as the “Gadfly” for her ability to identify sensitive issues.

A memorial to celebrate her incredible life will be held in mid-July, date to be determined. All of her family, neighbors and friends will be invited.
