Patricia was born March 19, 1924, in Bates City, Mo., to Howard and Mary (Snodgrass) Hunt. She graduated from William Chrisman High School and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later a master’s in library science from the University of Missouri. She had worked as a librarian for the Mid-Continent Library in Independence for a number of years until she retired and moved with her husband to Pagosa Springs, Colo., where they spent nearly 30 years enjoying retirement together. While in Colorado, she attended the Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs, where she was very active and founded the church library. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and reading. She was a member of the DAR and was a Girl Scout leader when her children were young. Before retiring, she attended Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia “Lynne” Bowen, and husband Dale, of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Richard “Rick” Bertsch, and wife Karen, of Larkspur, Colo.; three grandchildren: Lyndsey Swierczek and husband Mark, Jennifer Bowen and Paul Bertsch; and two great-grandchildren, Isla and Luke Swierczek. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Martin “Bud” Bertsch, and a great-grandson, Leo Swierczek. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
