Special to The SUN

Loaves and Fishes of Archuleta County will be hosting a safe food handler class to all who volunteer at the Thursday meal.

The class will be held on Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall on Lewis Street. It is free to all Loaves and Fishes volunteers and lunch will be provided.

To hold the class, it will be necessary to have 20 participants, so please sign up right away.

The course is important for all Loaves and Fishes participants as it covers the basics of food safety including preventing food-borne illness, food temperature control, personal hygiene, preventing cross contamination, cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces, and preparing and serving food safely. This course fulfills the state of Colorado requirements for food safety works. A Safe Food Handler Certificate, valid for two years, will be awarded to those who successfully complete the course.

Loaves and Fishes, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, offers a free community meal each Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parish Hall on Lewis Street. All are invited to come enjoy the food and fellowship.

Please contact Katy Corbett, katycorbett@aol.com, for more information on the course and to sign up.
