Special to The PREVIEW

The Pagosa Springs Earth Community will be meeting at the Ruby Sisson Library on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

There will be two different times to accommodate more people. In the afternoon, we will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. and an evening session will be from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. The large meeting room is reserved.

At both sessions, we will be discussing the two most recent issues of YES Magazine. The fall issue is on freedom and fairness in renewable energy. We have free copies for everyone who attends. Fran Korten left copies for us when she was here to speak in September.

Some of the topics to be discussed are: the renewable revolution, mountaintop coal mines, feeding ourselves in a time of climate crisis and climate change.

The winter issue of YES Magazine is on solidarity. Some of the topics to be discussed include: building a joyful economy for each other, reducing inequality, exchanging time instead of money and capitalism.

The format for both sessions will be that the people who attend select the topics to be discussed. We may read together sections of articles in the magazine. I am certain that each session will be informative and interesting exploring new concepts and ideas.

We are living in such a political time. The Earth Community is not a political group, but it is good for us to stay informed of interesting thoughts and activities taking place in the U.S. that are shared in YES Magazine, whose motto is “Journalism for People Building a Better World.” If that, too, is your goal, I hope to see you there. If there is a snowstorm, the sessions will be postponed.
