The San Juan Water Conservancy District (SJWCD) and the Town of Pagosa Springs applied for and received a grant through the Sonoran Institute in September 2017 for technical assistance and training on integrating land use and water planning for development.
The grant required a work group formed by a delegation from the Pagosa Springs area to attend the three-day seminar held in Keystone, Colo. The work group included representatives from Archuleta County, Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District, SJWCD and the town.
The primary lesson the attending work group received from this seminar is the importance of communication between all entities involved with community growth and water development. As a result, the work group has been expanded to also include the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association and the Pagosa Fire Protection District.
Representatives from each of these entities have been meeting since the workshop in preparation for presenting their findings and recommendations to all participating entity boards at a multiagency joint work session scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
