Douglas Paul Galles, 72, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife and two children on Sunday, Oct. 8. Doug was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Marcus, Iowa, and served a 13-month tour in Vietnam as an infantryman in the United States Army. He married Judy in July 1972 and graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic that same year. He and Judy went on to run their chiropractic practice in Denton, Texas, for over 20 years.

Doug enjoyed spending time on Moss Lake at the family’s lake home in Texas and loved frequent escapes to the islands with his family. He and Judy retired to Pagosa Springs and later moved to their present home in Dawsonville, Ga. More than any of this, Doug leaves behind a legacy of compassion, courage and an unmatched quick wit. He was larger than life and time spent with him was unforgettable, as his warmth and comfort filled every room.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; son Bradley Galles (Jen); daughter Kelly Clark (Brian); and four grandchildren whom he adored: Santana, Dean, Stevie and Cole; brother Gerald Galles (Kitty); sister Jane Sourdiff (Jerald); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Rose and Erv Galles, sisters Georgia Polson and Carol Petersen, and brothers Richard Galles and David Galles.

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home.
