Mark was called home to heaven at the age of 52, after a three-week struggle to recover from a stroke and heart failure.

Mark was born in Shreveport, La. His family later moved to Colorado, where he graduated from Brighton High School and attended college classes at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. Mark’s career was primarily in the food and beverage industry. At the time of his death, he owned and operated a local favorite Italian restaurant, Marconi’s. He had great pride and love for his employees, his customers and the town of Pagosa Springs.

Mark truly loved life. He loved his family, friends, country and the great outdoors. He never met a stranger and his love and kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was truly a gentle giant of a man.

Mark is survived by his mother, Mary Barber, of Castle Rock, Colo., by his daughter, Morgan Barber, of Denver, Colo., and by his aunt and uncle, Mandy and Denny Barber, of Pagosa Springs.

It is difficult to accept that someone like Mark, who brought so much love, joy and kindness to so many other people, can be gone so soon.

As Mark requested, his ashes will be spread in the ocean around Roatan, Honduras. Donations in memory of Mark may be made to either the “The Estate of Mark Wayne Barber” in care of his mother, Mary, for the benefit of his daughter, Morgan, to 1365 Peninsula Circle, Castle Rock, CO 80104; or to The American Heart Association.
