Think of United Way this Mother’s Day

Special to The PREVIEW

Mother’s Day is fast approaching. Considering treating her to brunch or dinner? How about treating her and Archuleta County at the same time by using United Way’s Dining Certificates redeemable toward your tab at many of our great restaurants?

Purchase the certificates for $25 and that full amount will apply to your bill. The restaurants then contribute $5 for each redeemed certificate to United Way, which uses that donation to help support 12 local nonprofit agencies. It means a lot to them and to our residents utilizing their much needed services.

Also, we know it’s late, but the Pagosa Springs High School prom night is this Saturday. There’s still time to buy and use these certificates to reward your student and his/her date for another great Pirate year and still time for the students to reward themselves and help our community.

Certificates may be purchased at the Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center, Pagosa Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, Pagosa Springs Visitor Center, Ross Aragon Community Center, Seeds of Learning, Rise Above Violence (formerly Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program) and San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging.

Golf tournament

Another thing to remember is that the United Way 18th annual Golf Tournament will be played on June 3 at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club.

Ladies, gentlemen and players of all skills are invited.

This year’s tournament features $50,000 hole-in-one and $15.000 putting contests and lunch, all included in the entry fee of $80.

There will also be a second hole-in-one contest for a $1 million prize. Tickets to enter this contest are $5, and a golfer may purchase as many as desired. There will then be a drawing and the winner (only one) will have a shot at the million bucks.

There will also be door prizes (one free entry to each golfer and additional tickets may be purchased for $1 apiece) and the ever popular $5 mulligans.

A good time will be had by all. Sponsorships are still available and entry forms may be obtained at the golf club, Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center, Visitor Center and Chamber, or by calling Bill Hudgins at 946-1624 or emailing billh@unitedway-swco.org.
