A landslide behind Pagosa Springs High School resulted in closure of the athletic/music wing of the building until an insurance expert can evaluate the situation on Friday.

Archuleta School District Superintendent Linda Reed issued a statement late this afternoon, “Earlier today, one of our high school teachers noticed what looked like a slide on the hillside behind the gym and locker room areas of Pagosa Springs High School.” A local engineer inspected the erosion, which resulted in the closure.

According to Reed, “We have already placed extra protection behind the building and are working on additional fencing to keep people out of the area. Please do not attempt to go behind the building or on the hillside above the building as it is not safe at this time.”

The Pagosa Youth Basketball Tournament, which was scheduled to be held at the high school has been moved to the Ross Aragon Community Center.

Grace in Pagosa has moved its Good Friday services from the Community Center to the Pagosa Springs High School commons area to accommodate the basketball tournament.
