Second annual Pagosa Care Conference set for March 16

Do you need resources and encouragement to deal with an aging family member, or one with dementia or a terminal illness? Do you need support in your role as a caregiver? Is your own health suffering? Are you overwhelmed?

Join us for the second annual Pagosa Care Conference: Taking Good Care of Yourself and Others. This educational, resourceful conference will provide strategies for coping and helpful tips to better health. Professional speakers will discuss real-life solutions. Local agencies and organizations will be available with information and encouragement.

Our speakers include:

• Dan Keuning, RN, with “In Pursuit of Quality of Life,” supportive coaching and insights to maximize quality of life as one ages.

• Michele Smith, certified care trainer, with “Normal vs. Not Normal Aging,” an engaging and interactive session about aging issues; to include memory loss and challenges surrounding this difficult issue.

• Myoung Fry, MLIS, with “Refuel Your Cup First.” Learn skills that encourage you to take good care of yourself first and be better prepared to care for a loved one.

• Local professionals with “Senior Health and Movement; Balance, Nutrition and Movement,”covering educational topics for an overview of the body and how to keep it healthy.

• Elaine Stumpo, regional director of the Alzheimer’s Association, with “Life after a Dementia Diagnosis,” on specifics of coping with a dementia diagnosis and how to move forward with a more positive approach.

• Anthony Edwards, attorney for the Area Agency on Aging, with “Do You Have Everything in Place?” Have important legal documents completed before it’s too late.

A professional panel will address your questions and concerns on issues relating to aging, health and caregiving. The Provider Fair features representatives from local agencies and businesses with information and support.

The conference will be held at the Ross Aragon Community Center, located on Hot Springs Boulevard, on March 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Music will be provided by Linda Carter. There will be doorprizes. This is a free event.
