2016 was a busy and interesting year in Pagosa Country. There was no want for controversial issues, no lack of interesting news events to keep SUN readers focused on local events, situations and personalities.

• On July 1 and 2, nearly 34 years to the day after Stewart Eric Simmons rolled into town with the traveling carnival, a pair of suspects were arrested for the deaths of Simmons and his female companion, Margaret Ann Walden.
