Alva Ann Council Williams

obit-williamsimg_6370Alva Ann Council Williams was the youngest of five children born to the late James Russell Council and Estella Webber Council in Boley, Okla. Her late father, James Russel Council, was the first black county agriculture agent in the state of Oklahoma. Alva was born April 22, 1926, and departed Nov. 29 at Pine Ridge Extended Care in Colorado.

Alva attended Boley schools and graduated from Langston University in Langston, Okla., in 1948.She got married in 1950 to Herman Williams. The union produced a son, Daryl C. Williams.

She taught first and second grade for 33 years in the Kansas City School District. It was one of the passions of her life. She was also a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kansas City for 57 years and held several positions.

She leaves in mourning her son, Daryl Williams, and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Williams; grandson Daryl E. Williams; nieces Brenda Mercomb and Staci Seely; and three great-grandchildren.
