John Patrick Jackson passed away on Saturday, April 30, at his home with his family by his side. He was 67 years old.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs.

John was born on June 19, 1948, to William F. and Allie Mae (Sayles) Jackson in Pagosa Springs. He spent his childhood there and went on to graduate from Pagosa Springs High School with the class of 1966.

On Oct. 12, 1969, John married Barbara Jo Smith in Pagosa Springs. John worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections, retiring on April 29 from the Delta Correctional Facility, where he had worked for the past 20 years.

John was a member of the Catholic Church. His main interest was his wife and children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Among survivors are his wife of 46 years: Barbara Jackson, of Delta, Colo.; two sons and their wives: John “Cody” (Rosario) Jackson, of Nogales, Ariz., and Travis James (Erin) Jackson, of Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters: Marijka Sue Grasmick, of Lakin, Kan., and Jolene Paige Jackson, of Salida, Colo.; one brother: William Jackson (Eileen), of Scott City, Kan.; and one sister: Essie Marie Kirk, of Rapid City, S.D. He is also survived by five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Jackson, and a son-in-law, Steven Allen Grasmick.
