Special to The PREVIEW

Mark your calendar for the premier event of the season, the Pagosa Rotary Club’s Kentucky Derby Party, on from 2 to 6 p.m. on May 7.

The location of this year’s event is the prestigious Winslow on the Shire mountain chalet on U.S. 84 south of Pagosa Springs — the perfect location for an afternoon of great food and fun with breathtaking views of the north range.

Called “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” the running of the Kentucky Derby will be simulcast live from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Partygoers will have the chance to bet on their favorite horse and cheer them on across the finish line while sipping on mint juleps, enjoying a delicious buffet and taking in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

There will be live music, prizes for women’s and men’s best hat contest, cash bar and buffet all for only $40 per person. Tickets can be purchased from any Rotarian or at Exit Realty or Old West Press.

With over 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million members worldwide, Rotary International is a service organization with the goal of bringing together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationships, take action and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Exemplifying the Rotary motto of Service Above Self, the local Rotary clubs provide support for local and international projects that improve the lives of others. Profits from the Kentucky Derby Party are spread throughout the community in the form of scholarships, food-filled backpacks for youth needing supplemental meals, dictionaries for school students and awards to encourage our youth leaders.

Support these community projects and have a fun-filled afternoon with your friends and neighbors at the Pagosa Rotary Kentucky Derby Party.

Buy your tickets today as there are only a limited number of tickets available. Seek out your local Rotarian or stop by Exit Realty or Old West Press for your tickets and look forward to an afternoon of music, great food and, of course, the Kentucky Derby.
