San Juan Stargazers to learn about nucleosynthesis

Anyone who has seen the original “Cosmos” series with Carl Sagan will remember him intoning in his rich baritone voice that, “We are made of star stuff.”

By that, he meant that the elements that form our bodies were originally made in the hearts of stars and blown throughout the universe when the stars exploded in their death throes. The forging of those elements is called nucleosynthesis — a 75-cent word for the process of creating elements from other elements. The alchemists never did master that process.
