Special to The SUN

The local nonprofit GECKO (Giving Every Child Knowledge of the Outdoors) held its annual scholarship dinner on Wednesday night. The event recognizes students receiving scholarships to attend leadership and character challenge courses taught by nationally renowned organizations.

The courses last three weeks to one month and take place in wilderness areas around the world. Attendees at the dinner included GECKO supporters and volunteers, five local high school students receiving scholarships and parents of the students.
