obit-rascoe-IMG_0859A celebration of the life of Troy Randall Rascoe will be held on March 19 at 10 a.m. at Pagosa Bible Church. The family will receive friends at a lunch gathering at Centerpoint Church immediately following.

Troy Randall Rascoe went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 19 while spending time in Florida with his family.

He was born in Converse, La., and lived in Shreveport, La., for over 27 years, and most recently lived in Pagosa Springs for the past 18 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to1971. He was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, Calif., as an aircraft technician on the C-141.

Troy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie Temple Rascoe; daughter Ginger Smith and husband John, of Pagosa Springs; son Patrick Rascoe and wife April, of St. Augustine, Fla.; his pride and joy was his five grandsons, Hunter, Nathan and Johnathon Smith, Davis and Luke Rascoe.

Troy was preceded in death by his mother, Sammie Camille Sistrunk Myers. His father, Wallace Truitt Rascoe, and Wanda Strong Rascoe. Uncles Carroll and Lamar Rascoe, and aunt Nelwyn Davis. He was raised by his grandparents, Walter Lee and Mae Rascoe, and grew up with his aunts and uncles, who were like brothers and sisters: Buford Rascoe, Clara Hatcher, Betty Andrews, Thomas Rascoe, Douglas Rascoe, Delores McAllister and Jan Ryals, along with Kennie McVay. Brothers and sisters Sue Myers Wesson, Charles Myers, JoJo Myers, Tracy Myers Herrin and stepbrother Vince Rascoe.

He attended Louisiana College. He also worked as a machinist at Riley Beaird for over 33 years. In 2013, he retired from Wyndham Resorts in Pagosa Springs. Most of his time was spent traveling with Marie, climbing mountains and hunting. He was an amazing woodworker and craftsman. He was a mission-minded servant of the Lord and a strong man of God.

The family respectfully requests memorial donations be made instead of flowers.

CCCD — Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf in Jamaica: 122 North Court Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901. Troy spent a great deal of time constructing buildings for deaf children to have classrooms to learn about Jesus.

MAF-Mission Aviation Fellowship: P.O. Box 47, Nampa, ID 83653. Troy volunteered his time repairing airplanes so foreign missionaries had the supplies they needed to carry out Mark 16:15, “Go ye unto all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
