The emergency room at Pagosa Springs Medical Center is again open following this morning's evacuation, according to PSMC's chief administrative officer, Ann Bruzzese.

Shortly before 9 a.m., the ER was evacuated after a lighting fixture in front of the hospital's cafe caught fire.

Staff noticed and put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but smoke remained and the ER patients were moved outside and treated. Additional staff was called in and the hospital's emergency response team was activated to help care for the patients.

Pagosa Fire Protection District personnel responded to the call and checked the ceiling to ensure there was no additional fire.

At about 10 a.m., Bruzzese reported that PFPD personnel had given the "all clear" to reopen the ER.
