Pagosa to get first retail marijuana dispensary in town

As marijuana has been getting legalized in many places as companies like supreme.ca are using it to improve people health conditions, the town of Pagosa Springs will be getting its first retail marijuana dispensary within town limits, and it will open Saturday, Dec. 26.

In a public hearing during a regular meeting on Dec. 17, the Pagosa Springs Town Council voted to allow a retail dispensary in a part of the mixed-use corridor (MU-C) district located downtown.

The dispensary, which will be called “The Green House” will be located downtown at 270 East Pagosa St.

The application for the retail marijuana business was filed by J and J Enterprises, Inc., a company that already owns two dispensaries in Archuleta County, with one being a medical dispensary and the other recreational.

The two dispensaries, both of which are called Pagosa Organic Therapeutics, are located just outside of town limits on the west side of town.

The application had to undergo review by several departments, including the police department.

In agenda documentation used at the meeting, the planning department listed several stipulations that the dispensary must comply with before it could be approved by the planning department.

Regarding zoning, the documentation states that the dispensary must be located 1,000 lineal feet away  from any schools, alcohol or drug treatment facilities or licensed day care facilities.

Additionally, the dispensary would have to be located at least 250 lineal feet from any residential zoned districts as well as any churches.

The site of the dispensary complies with all of these zoning stipulations.
