Critter nest is likely cause of Hatcher Lake chimney fire

Pagosa Fire Protection District personnel responded to 13 Point Place in the Hatcher Lake area for a chimney fire on Dec. 16 at 3:24 p.m.

According to a press release, PFPD personnel arrived at the scene 12 minutes after receiving the call, and reported smoke coming from the eaves on the front of the house.

As additional fire apparatus arrived, the fire personnel cut a hole in the soffit next to the chimney to gain access to the fire. The fire had extended from the chimney into the eaves and was running along the ridge pole.

The fire was declared under control at 4:05 p.m.

The fire was extinguished and salvage and overhaul operations were performed to protect as much property as possible and to ensure that the fire was completely out.
