The Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) agreed to fund $10,000 in match for a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant in a meeting on Monday, Dec. 14.
Town Planner James Dickhoff presented the request to the BoCC.
According to agenda documentation used at the meeting, the requested $10,000 would be applied toward the required cash match. The total cost of the project will be up to $437,500.
The agenda documentation states that up to $350,000 can be requested in the grant application, but statewide, there is only $2 million available.
The documentation goes on to state that an estimated 80 to 100 applications will be received, but with the state only having $2 million available, only five to seven applications will be funded.
The “project scope” listed on the documentation states that the SRTS grant application will include expenses associated with:
• Design and engineering services.
• Construction of 400 lineal feet of sidewalk, curb and gutter along the east side of North 8th Street to Florida Street.
• Construction of 70 lineal feet of sidewalk, curb and gutter along the south side of Florida Street to Sixth Street.
• Provide a crosswalk for access to Hickory Ridge Apartments private sidewalk.
Additionally, the project scope on the documentation states that it will also include an “educational component for Elementary school students, parents and faculty” in addition to street and sidewalk lighting along the entire length of the proposed sidewalk.
