Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office to hold public Q&A forum

This week, the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office announced its upcoming public Q&A forum to be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at noon at the Archuleta County administration building, located at 398 Lewis St.

This community event is open to all members of the public. Department heads will be available in an informal session to answer community questions regarding the department, as well as current activities and future plans.

Sheriff Rich Valdez explained, “We are excited to offer this interactive community forum, as we anticipate the community may have questions concerning current sheriff’s department operations, the flooding of the county jail and subsequent development of a new jail facility, the 2016 budget and emergency management El Niño winter planning. There is plenty to discuss and we would welcome the opportunity to share this with Pagosa Springs’ residents and businesses.”

The format for the forum will be an informal panel of all department heads including Valdez, Tonya Hamilton (undersheriff), Brandon Bishop (patrol sergeant), Thad McKain (director of emergency management) and Jed Everett (detentions corporal).

The meeting will start at noon with light refreshments, followed by a short introduction from each of the department heads from the panel explaining their role and the current state of their departments, as well as a succinct overview of 2016 plans and aims for their department. After this, the panel will answer questions posed by the public.
