The  Weminuche Audubon Society is gearing up for Pagosa’s annual Christmas Bird Count. Any local resident or visitor with an interest in birds is invited to participate.

To prepare to count birds, Audubon Rockies’ Becky Gillette will offer a series of informal training sessions entitled “Winter Birds 101.” This minicourse will cover the basics of identifying bird species found in the area.

The series consists of classes held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. The Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 classes will take place in the South Conference Room of the Ross Aragon Community Center. The Dec. 16 class will take place at Higher Grounds Coffee.

Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the Christmas Bird Count.
