obit-dewey-12233175_10207778179953545_1421871802_nDewey Lattin Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 6. He was born April 5, 1926, to George Dewey and Hilda Lattin in Pagosa Springs.

After school, he joined the Navy in 1943-1949, where he was stationed in Florida, Long Beach, Pearl Harbor, Midway, Shanghai and other places in China. Dewey knew how long he was in the Navy down to hours.

After the Navy, he returned to Pagosa Springs to work in various jobs.

In 1952, he met the love of his life, Maxine Montoya. They married April 25, 1952, and had four sons: Ronnie G. (deceased), Terry Lee (Vickie), LeRoy (Linda) and Gary Dean (Marie); Peggy Vautier (daughter); and former daughter-in-law Leslie Lattin, who he thought a lot of; his grandchildren: Jamie, Kayla, Joni, Matthew, Roxanne, Amanda and Jeremy; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.

He was a Mineral County deputy sheriff for 43 years and for 17 years he was an Archuleta County school bus driver. He worked 43 years as a ranch foreman at Born’s Lake and numerous years as a Colorado Mounted Ranger. Dewey was a hard worker all of his life. He loved his family, hunting, fishing and camping and loved hauling wood.

He instilled great family values and was loved by so many people in our community. Dewey never met a stranger and always had a hug for anyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wesley Lattin and his son, Ronnie G.

Rosary will be held Friday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 451 Lewis St. Services will be Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church, 353 S. Pagosa Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pagosa Mountain Hospital or Pine Ridge Extended Care Center.
